Warren’s latest is a touching tale of love discovered and the meaning of family. There are a few shortfalls: Darek’s parenting dynamic and the seemingly endless dwelling on the past by all of the characters. Overall, this is an emotionally satisfying story, if just a little drawn out.

County attorney Ivy Madison is new to Deep Haven and anxious to make friends. She “buys” a date with bachelor Darek Christiansen, a troubled widower who was standing in for his brother. Their relationship progresses, but not without its trials, because Ivy was the one who developed the plea deal that kept the man responsible for Darek’s wife’s death out of jail. What will happen when Darek finds out? (TYNDALE, Apr., 416 pp., $13.99)
