Book Review

RT Rating

If you have not read Lovely’s previous novels starring the Black family, then there is a good chance you will have difficulty keeping up with the many characters and storylines. It’s refreshing that the author showcases love from the perspective of couples in their 30s, 50s and 70s, sending a message to readers that age is indeed just a number. Though the storyline is easy to follow, the author tries too hard to make each chapter drip with more and more drama.

The Livingstons, the royal BBQ family of Atlanta, have returned and their haters are back in full form, too. A suspicious fire at their West Coast restaurant kicks off a series of events, including their food being poisoned at a high-profile event. More secrets are exposed and old enemies learn to forgive as this family faces, together, what life throws their way. (DAFINA, Apr., 320 pp., $15.00)
