THE TALE OF CASTLE COTTAGE
by Susan Wittig Albert

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

Unless readers are ready to hie back to the golden days of their childhood, when Peter Rabbit was their closest companion, Albert’s slight mystery wrapped in an anthropomorphic tale set in an English village is going to be tough reading. Even though the heroine is the multitalented Beatrix Potter, there’s just not enough plot to hold it together.

With parental disapproval blocking her path to the altar with her fiancé, Beatrix is also having trouble remodeling Castle Cottage, so when a suspected theft turns into a murder, she investigates. In the meantime, the village’s animals band together to force a band of renegade rats out of town and attempt to recover all the villagers’ missing items. (PRIME CRIME, Sep., 320 pp., $24.95)
