TALKING TO TREES
by Kathryn Sullivan

Genre: Young Adult

RT Rating

This young adult novel follow-up to Sullivan's The Crystal Throne continues the adventures of Peter and his friend Jeanne in a magical alternate world. This time Peter's snobbish twin sister, Jody, is along for the ride. Although Jody's more caricature than character, the story moves along at a nice, quick pace. Those unfamiliar with Sullivan's fantasy world may want to check out the novel's predecessor before jumping head first into this entertaining yet involved read.

Jody Burns is at the mall
with her friends when she's approached by green-haired Twylgalit, who urgently asks for help. Her grandmother is in grave danger and Twylgalit is insistent that the Watcher of her world sent
her to Jody for help. Turns out Jody
had "borrowed" her brother Peter's bracelet from his room, which caused the apparent mix-up. Soon Jody, Peter and his friend Jeanne are all caught
up in trying to save Twylgalit's world,
and this turns out to be a harder task than expected as the three are immediately separated and forced to make their own separate ways. (Amber Quill, Jan '06, 198 pp., $15.00)
