Image of Tempered: Book Four of The St. Croix Chronicles

The St. Croix Chronicles is a stunningly well-done series that only continues to excite in this fourth installment. Tempered has a slightly different tone than the rest of the series, offering up a fresh and necessary perspective on Cherry’s history. Cooper’s voice is dynamic and unique, transporting readers directly to a different place and a different time with her fully developed world. And the chilling, gothic atmosphere practically takes on a life of its own, giving the characters the perfect playground for mystery. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Cherry!

Cherry St. Croix has faced her share of bloodthirsty foes, heartache and loss, but she’s about to take on her most difficult challenge of all: fighting her own demons as she struggles with sobriety. She finally meets her guardian face to face, and he is determined to dry Cherry out and give her life clarity at last. The house she is to stay in, however, feels like it has a life of its own. Is it just her imagination as she struggles with her cravings for laudanum or something more sinister? Learning her family history with alchemy provides a distraction but soon the haunted halls begin to call out for her, enticing her to approach dangers she has never known before.
