London’s Sweetblood series kicks into high gear with this third installment featuring a hero on the edge. A key part of London’s universe is the difficulty the Guardian vampires have not falling to the dark side and becoming Darkbloods. London does a very good job of developing both her characters and their blossoming relationship, making this one terrific read.

Guardian Jackson Foss knows that his urge for blood and energy is growing harder and harder to satiate and fears he is in danger of becoming a Darkblood. Although the Guardians won a battle against the Darkblood Alliance when they destroyed their Night of the Wilding party and rescued a number of humans, all whom have the intoxicating Sweetblood blood type, they fear another plot is brewing.

Arianna Wells’ day job is working for a software company, but her passion is her blog, Paranormalish, where she hunts for answers regarding unusual events. Jackson and Arianna collide when Jackson rescues Arianna’s young cousin Krystal, a Sweetblood. But when the mind wipe doesn’t work on Arianna, Jackson is faced with a serious problem. Even more ominous, the Darkbloods are not about to let Krystal escape. (HQN, Mar., 384 pp., $7.99)
