A mythical creature, a couple of truly hot guys and sizzling sex make this ACRO (Agency for Covert Rare Operatives) entry a spicy and fabulously entertaining tale. Even the subplot has richly drawn characters and a smartly developed plot.

A team of Navy SEALs has been virtually wiped out in the Brazilian rain forest by something that, according to an expert cryptozoologist, shouldn’t even exist. ACRO sends operatives Sela Kahne and Marlena West to investigate, but they’ll need the help of two men who have their own secrets.

Sela’s the expert on the mythical chupacabra, but she has another valuable skill: When she makes love to a man, she can read his mind. Logan Mills rescued the lone survivor, Chance McCormack, and now he’s leading the team to capture the creature. He is a natural for her. Marlena, meanwhile, has apparently become Chance’s soul mate — and she could be the only thing keeping the wounded man from becoming one more experiment. (BANTAM, Aug., 362 pp., $15.00)
