Gray’s first in a new historical romance series, The Heart of a Hero, tackles subject matter that might be hard for some readers to take, but the end makes it worthwhile to finish. Gray tackles a difficult subject with gentleness and respect. Clayton Proffitt discovers Vanessa Grant in his barn, crying and covered with marks on her back. He knows who did this to her and needs to get her as far away as possible and fast. As they travel west with Vanessa’s stepfather hot on their heels, their friendship turns into something more. Clayton realizes that the only way she will be safe is if they’re married. When they are confronted, all their lives will be changed forever.
