When college student and waitress Josie Whitford finds out she's pregnant a few months after her lover of a month disappears, she's determined to confront him. But when she drives to what she thinks is his 25,000-acre ranch, she discovers that her lover was an imposter. The real Chase Clayton, a millionaire rancher, helps her track down the imposter, and the two fall in love in the process. Their relationship is complicated, however, by the presence of Chase's fiancee, a friend he's marrying only to help her gain control of her own farm. Kathleen O'Brien's Texas Baby (3) is a pleasant read. Although the story's predictable -- girl in trouble rescued by gallant guy -- readers will enjoy O'Brien's good characters and writing.
