This spin-off of Ms. Kane's short story, "Yuletide Treasure," follows Lady Noelle Bromleigh as she untangles the mystery surrounding her parentage.

At the age of 18 Noelle persuades her adoptive father to tell her the circumstances of her birth. She discovers that the heartless Franco Baricci, a well-known art dealer, seduced her mother and then abandoned her. Noelle sets out to find him and put the past behind her.

Noelle has no idea that Baricci is more dangerous than she thought. Just by looking for him she is following a path to danger.

Ashford Thornton, the Earl of Tremlett (son of Daphne and Pierce from The Last Duke), has also been tracking Baricci when he encounters Noelle. Ashford suspects that Baricci is an art thief, and thinks that Noelle might be an accomplice.

When Ashford discovers Noelle's real motives, they set out together to uncover the truth. But secrets, villains and the danger each presents to the other's heart make this a rousing romance and a titillating thriller; the kind of historical suspense Ms. Kane writes like no other. Add a charming father/daughter relationship and you have a book that will steal your heart. SENSUAL (Oct., 400 pp., $6.50)
