THEIR MIRACLE BABY by Caroline Anderson (2): Mike and Fran Trevellyan have a wonderful life. She enjoys her career as a teacher and he is excited to run his family’s dairy farm. The only problem is that they are unable to have a child and it is ruining their marriage. After the devastation of two miscarriages and an unsuccessful round of IVF, Mike and Fran treat each other more like strangers sharing a house then a married couple. It doesn’t help that everyone in the small English countryside town of Penhally Bay seems to be pregnant. This causes Fran to become withdrawn and Mike finds it difficult to talk with his wife. But just as it appears that their marriage is over, the couple gets a new reason to hope. Fran and Mike are two ordinary people with a heartbreaking problem. Their issues are very realistic and more than just a touch depressing. The story is almost devoid of all romance, not because Mike and Fran are already married, but because they have made the choice to distance themselves from each other. Unless the reader is looking to be seriously frustrated by this couple’s inability to communicate or lend each other strength, this book may be best avoided.
