Long reminds readers that the storms of life do pass in her latest Patch of Heaven book. She highlights the fact that children with special needs are a special gift, not a punishment. While the secondary storylines and characters are not as well developed, the importance of grace and the true gift of love are evident in this well-crafted tale.

Grace Raber married widower Silas Beiler to help her family. He believed she was cursed by her beauty and sought to teach her discipline. He also told her their son’s autism was “Gott’s” punishment for her sins. After he dies, Grace wants to provide a stable life for her son. Seth Wyse offers to marry her to protect her from her brother-in-law. She finds it hard to believe that Seth could give up his flirtatious ways and be the father and husband she needs him to be. Can she trust Seth and find the love she never had with Silas? (THOMAS NELSON, Feb., 320 pp., $15.99)
