When police chief Kerry Everett enters information about the grisly murder in Damascus, Florida into the FBIs database, she is not sure what the Bureau will do with the data.

On his way to his bosss office, FBI agent Maceo Kent finds himself thinking of her again, the one woman he wouldve married, but the time hadnt been right for them. His boss briefs him on the murder in Damascus, as its similar to a string of vigilante killings Mac is investigating throughout the country. When Mac sees the police chiefs name, he decides to investigate immediately.

When Mac and Kerry meet again, all of the feelings that they experienced ten years before come rushing back. Kerry is adamant about not getting involved with the ex-Marine who broke her heart.

The scenes between Mac and Kerry as they discuss their feelings for one another and why their relationship failed the first time are very moving. Secondary characters also contributed to this storys surprise outcome. (Oct., 288 pp., $5.99)
