After witnessing the murder of his policeman father and being threatened by the killer, Tommy Poston is not talking. When the new police chief Gabe McLaren takes over the investigation, he becomes involved with Tommy and his mother, Holly. He tries to get Tommy talking in order to protect them from continuing threats. In TOMMY'S MOM (2), Linda O. Johnston's plot is weakened by unconvincing characters whose motivations seem contrived; also the dialogue between Gabe and Holly is stilted. However, Gabe's budding relationship with Tommy redeems the story.
