In the fast-paced conclusion to Julie E. Czerneda's Trade Pact Universe space opera, TO TRADE THE STARS (4.5 ) tests the telepathy limits of the first Human-Clan partnering when someone kidnaps Jason's new bride, Sira, during their honeymoon. Sira broke Clan taboo to marry Jason yet since she's the most powerful Clan member alive, she's part of the Council. Jason tries learning the Clan use of M'hir space for teleporting. They can feel each other's bond and communicate with thoughts through the M'hir, but only she can port. Sira wants to be left alone to enjoy her husband, but something in the M'hir has other plans. Truly alien aliens is Ms. Czerneda's forte. She creates such sophisticated characters that their utterly otherness is fascinating to unravel. (Jun., 496 pp., $6.99)
