Book Review

by Jessica Beck

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

Scrumptious donut recipes, a small Southern town and a seriously good mystery combine to make Beck’s latest novel a winner. A perfect blend of plotting and family dynamics add up to an all-around entertaining read.

Donut shop owner Suzanne Heart is horrified to learn that Emily Hargraves is missing and that she was last seen in Suzanne’s shop. She solves that mystery with a little sleuthing, but when she and her cousin Grace find a corpse hanging from the Patriot Tree in the City Park, things turn serious. The corpse turns out to be well-liked local handyman Tim Leander. Suzanne is determined to find his killers, even when they mess with her business to scare her off. (MINOTAUR, Sep., 320 pp., $7.99)
