The second Private Justice novel finds its groove with this chillingly realistic tale. On one side, the story is frightening, and on the other, readers will root for the romance between Dev and Laura, which develops slowly yet meaningfully.
Librarian Laura Griffith contacts the Phoenix agency and is put in contact with James “Dev” Devlin, ATF agent turned PI. Laura had recently taken custody of her 16-year-old half-sister, Darcy, but Darcy decided Laura’s rules were a bit too strict and ran away. Laura is frantic to find her when a blizzard hits town. As Laura and Dev search and uncover clues, Darcy meets someone at a local homeless shelter who may or may not have her best interests at heart. (REVELL, Sep., 400 pp., $14.99)
