When her much-loved aunt dies in a car crash that leaves her drunken father in a coma, photographer Erin McNulty flies home to deal with the funeral arrangements. She's sure her father caused the accident, but when she gets back to Granite Hills, a town she hasn't visited for years, she meets police officer Colin Barrett, who thinks the car crash may not have been an accident. Kimberly Van Meter's The Truth About Family (4) is a heart-wrenching book about the difficulties of returning to a painful past. Van Meter does a good job of depicting Erin's anger over her past and her reluctance to confront it.
