Thirteen is a lucky number for Benni Harper, whose 13th mystery is a great book. It's always a pleasure to read about what she has going on in her life. The quirks and foibles of her police chief husband, Gabe, are also immensely enjoyable. Secondary characters and
a compelling mystery also enrich this
fun book.

Quilter Benni is immersed in other people's problems once again. The rich women's club of San Celina has suffered a loss. One of their members has died, and Benni's boss, Constance Sinclair, thinks that the person responsible is someone who wanted to join the exclusive club, which has a membership of only 49.

When Constance asks Benni to look into the murder, she feels like she can't say no. Plenty of suspects pop up, and as if Benni didn't have enough on her hands, there's an impending visit from her mother-in-law! (BERKLEY PRIME CRIME, May, 320 pp., $24.95)
