Image of Twilight Prophecy (Children of Twilight)

This spellbinding story is a great, imaginative addition to Shayne’s vampire stories. Not one to read if you’re looking for a cheerful happy-ever-after, but quite satisfying with a bit of cliffhanger ending. It helps readers if they’re familiar with this series.

James Poe and his twin sister Brigit are unique. Part vampire and yet also one-quarter human, James has the ability to heal and raise the dead with his touch. He is the healer and Brigit is the destroyer. James is searching for the reason they were born. Brigit thinks she has found it. It involves Professor Lucy Lanfair, an archeologist and one of the Chosen, one with the ability to become a vampire. Now the truth is out that vampires exist and the prophecy that foretells their annihilation might come true. Lucy finds herself shot, healed, drugged, interrogated and released to lead the bad guys to James. Soon she’s helping him to save the vampires by resurrecting Utanapishtim, dead for 5,000 years. Will this be their salvation or their doom? (MIRA, Apr., 400 pp., $7.99)
