Eagle Pass, Texas, 1887 and 1889: Callie Roberts has carried guilt within her soul since the day of the explosion that killed her parents, her older brother and the man she was going to marry. She has tried to carve out a life for herself and her younger brother, who lost his hearing because of the explosion.
