With its delightful twist on Cinderella, Marlowe’s latest pits a straitlaced lady with a weapons-obsessed nobleman and lets the battle begin. Along with the charming main storyline Marlowe incorporates several subplots, which add interest and danger. Even though they do not all reach a resolution, readers will not be disappointed.

Miss Chloe Hardwick has been expertly handling the construction of Lord Marland’s new wing for her invalid stepfather. When Braedon Denning, the marquess, arrives, he’s surprised to find the capable Hardwick is a woman. Sensing there is more to Chloe, Braedon’s sister whisks her away to London to help organize a ball. Like a fairy godmother, she turns Chloe into a beautiful princess. Braedon is stunned, but he can’t let his interest get in the way of acquiring a priceless spear. As they hunt down the weapon, it’s impossible for Chloe and Braedon to ignore their attraction.
