“Ancient” Queen Betsy battles “infant” Queen Betsy in the newest chapter of Davidson’s offbeat and mindboggling Undead series. This series has taken a turn into the really surreal as time travel and timelines have all been altered; luckily Davidson provides a handy recap. Campy humor and Betsy’s extreme self-absorption are still on display as this unconventional heroine does her best to undo, or not do, life-altering events. Hang on, this ride can only get wackier!

Grieving and devastated by Marc’s suicide after the “Marc Thing” from the future tells him of upcoming events, Betsy is determined to find a way to bring Marc back. After meeting her future self (who is scary as all hell), she knows that some of her actions will cause untold pain. But not knowing which actions are the cause is problematic. Just as she’s gearing up to get Marc back, she discovers he’s living in the attic as a zombie. Who pulled this off is the question — and with the Devil, ancient Betsy and her Antichrist sister Laura all maneuvering, what does it portend? (BERKLEY SENSATION, Jun, 320 pp., $25.95)
