There's plenty of nail-biting suspense
in this story -- especially because
a child is involved. The bad guys
are nasty and completely without conscience, and the good guys are strong and likable. The only flaw is the hero's inappropriate timing of his attraction to the heroine. It happens much too quickly and under unlikely conditions.

Late at night, chemist Jackson McKay and his 8-year-old daughter Emily are kidnapped from their home and held as prisoners somewhere in the Idaho mountains. The men holding Jackson want information from him pertaining to his job as head of research and development for Hemmer Biochemical, and they're using Emily as leverage to make him talk.

Jackson manages to escape and is rescued by Lauren Michaels, a smokejumper. Their attraction is instantaneous, and together they embark on a dangerous journey to rescue Emily. (SAMHAINPUBLISHING.COM, dl $5.50)
