UNDERGROUND WARRIOR (3) by Evelyn Vaughn: Extreme melodrama and an unbelievable plot weaken this story. Sibyl was once a child genius named Isabel, whose father worked as a night watchman at a prestigious New Orleans academy so she could attend the school. After he was killed in a fire, Isabel was sentenced by a judge named LaSalle to prison. Now she’s determined to find out the truth and stumbles upon the Comitatus, an ancient organization made up of wealthy, powerful families. Sibyl wants to bring Comitatus down. Trace Beaudry is LaSalle’s illegitimate son. He and Sibyl don’t trust each other or anyone else. Both are wounded characters, almost to an unlikable extent. While the exciting tale calls to mind other conspiracy novels, the lack of sympathy for the hero and heroine hurts the book.
