Miss Lucy Abbington has an ability to heal animals, and while in London for the season, it's her dream to be tutored in veterinary medicine.

Henry Ashton, the Marquis of Mandeville, is quite taken by Lucy's down-to-earth ways when she treats one of his horses. He is beguiled by the beautiful and intelligent young lady, and Lucy finds Henry to be a well-set-up figure of a man—but also arrogant. She encounters Henry at various functions and finds herself falling in love with him, even though he is far above her socially. Henry, also smitten, has his own agenda. Though he will not marry for love, he will marry to further his political ambitions. Will he realize that Lucy has the power to unlock his cynical heart and heal him with her love?

Though Henry seems self-centered and highly arrogant, some may find him more likable as the story moves toward its conclusion. This is a charming read from a debut author. SENSUAL (Nov., 352 pp., $3.99)
