Filled with interesting characters and some adorable animals, this is a nice, easygoing romance. It’s a pleasant change to have a heroine who wants and needs to gain weight. The hero is wonderfully hot with a dark past, but now he’s all-around nice.

Bad boy Liam Declan Murphy has returned home, a widower with a 15-year-old daughter. The girls all loved him back when he was in high school, including Posey Osterhagen. But then, as now, Posey had a skinny, boyish figure and wasn’t able to get any boy’s attention, least of all Liam’s. Still a sexy babe magnet, Liam has no time for dating, between his almost neurotic need to protect his daughter and his crippling panic attacks. Posey is still attracted to him and when they start seeing one another, she gets her hopes up for something more, something Liam doesn’t believe he is ready to give. (HQN, Nov., 384 pp., $7.99)
