Collins expertly melds flashbacks
with present-day events to provide a smooth yet deliciously intense flow. The spiritual message is light but supports the story's overall tone. Leslie and Paige's friendship develops more quickly than one would generally believe, but the quirky townsfolk are interesting and will help drive the next books in the series.

Paige Williams has come to Kanner Lake to escape her troubled past. When she finds the dead body of the town's most famous resident in her hot tub, she acts quickly, removing the corpse from her home. But the police become suspicious and start to investigate Paige and her past.

Her actions also start a cat-and-mouse game with a terrifying conclusion. Paige must learn to trust her friends, herself and God if she hopes to elude the killer.
