Broken Heart is getting pretty crowded with its ever-increasing band of supernatural entities. Bardsley has one of the most entertaining series on the market, and she keeps it fresh by having a different first-person narrator for each book. The humor and wackiness keep hitting the sweet spot. Since her parents founded the Paranormal Research and Investigative Service, Libby Monroe has been continually exposed to the hunt for the supernatural. It's in the small town of Broken Heart, Okla., that Libby gets proof positive of the existence of woo-woo.

Skulking around the cemetery, she stumbles across vampire and single father Ralph Genessa in the middle of a nasty fight between dragons. When the female dragon is mortally wounded, she insists on kissing Libby, thereby transferring her dragon essence. Libby and Ralph somehow end up sharing the dragon essence, which infuriates Synd, the dragon hunting for power. A clash of ancient powers is in the offing and, whether she likes it or not, Libby is now front and center in the conflict. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Nov., 320 pp., $6.99)
