WAKING UP IN CHARLESTON
Working two jobs and keeping up
with three active kids barely leaves widow Amanda O'Leary time to clean the house that Pastor Caleb Webb's parishioners built
for her. But Amanda is still powerless to refuse Caleb's request for help in counseling a pregnant teen, even though she knows tongues are wagging over the amount of time they're spending together. It's not until Amanda realizes that her attraction to Caleb is very mutual -- and that her kids are getting too attached to him -- that she starts to pull back. By then, it's far too late. Even the secrets Caleb's been keeping can't stop her from loving him.
Powerful conflict, an interesting subplot and depth of characterization are this story's main attractions. But readers looking for lots of action and/or a quick pace should keep clear. (May, 400 pp., $6.99)
