RT Rating

Scott’s last of the Lairds of the Loch trilogy ranks as the finest of the series. Exquisite writing, a fast-moving, highly intriguing plot and constantly rising levels of emotional tension make this a page-turner. Scott seamlessly melds historical events with her touching story, and readers will find it impossible to put down.

Lady Muriella MacFarlan is known for her storytelling and her impulsive and unpredictable behavior. Unfortunately her overactive imagination gets her into trouble with Robert MacAulay, heir to the Baron of Ardincaple. When Muriella is captured for trespassing and is to be tried, Rob declares himself her husband — causing the charges to be dropped. Muriella is shocked that Rob intercedes on her behalf. However, as different as they might seem, Rob and Muriella admire one another’s wit and depth of knowledge. They work together to defeat Rob’s enemies and protect his lands and their love.
