Simon Grant and Jorie Morrison are both concerned about the hasty engagement of Jorie's cousin, Lily Benton, and Simon's ward, James Wells. Although Lily and James are young and in love, people are worried.

As attorney/guardian for James and his fortune, Simon suspects Wells Enterprises may be expected to bail out William Benton's struggling company. Jorie just wishes the engagement were longer. Afraid that his reaction to the engagement may have damaged his relationship with James, Simon asks Jorie, a public relations director for a local charity who has experience putting on the best public face, to help him mend his relationship with James.
