Plotting sweet revenge against her ex-boyfriend lands Tia Amberson in a heap of trouble. Her normally cool demeanor is challenged when her boyfriend, Darius, dumps her on her birthday, which also happens to be Valentine's Day. Enter Byron, a rough-around-the edges cop who's struggling with his boss and his growing attraction for the sometimes dangerous Tia.

Though the story is not terrible, it may seem all too familiar with its boy-meets-girl theme. Following a predictable path with flying sparks, conflict ensues and boy and girl give in to their urges.

Readers may be left with many unanswered questions about key characters that are mentioned in the beginning of the book but not toward the end. This novel is stereotypical, and readers can afford to miss it. (Aug., 256 pp., $6.99)
