WHAT LIES IN SHADOW
Wainscott pens a chilling tale of deception and desire that takes place both on and off the Internet. Although some of the suspense elements are a bit transparent, the novel is a compelling one, and the antagonists are creepy enough to make anyone think twice before posting personal information online.
Jonna Karakosta spends her days as companion to her rich, successful and handsome husband. But he's busy and a bit distant. Lonely and dissatisfied, she pours her thoughts and emotions
into a pseudonymous weblog titled "Montene's Diary."
As the blog becomes increasingly popular, Jonna becomes convinced her husband is having an affair. She arranges to meet a man from her blog who intrigues her -- and who tempts her to consider having an affair of her own. But who can be trusted? And which players are more dangerous than they seem? Jonna won't know the truth until her heart and her life are on the line. (ST. MARTIN'S, Feb., 384 pp., $6.99)
