WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS
Dreiling’s first book in the Sinful Scoundrels series is wonderful! Rife with the Regency’s penchant for gossip, scandal and matchmaking, What a Wicked Earl Wants is a delightful romance featuring a rakish hero, an innocent widow, corrupt villains and a secondary cast of characters who add dimension, wit and tenderness to the plot. Readers will find this a real pleasure to savor.
Andrew Covington, Earl of Bellingham, is a man of mystery. Bell is fabulously wealthy, always has a beautiful woman on his arm and has foresworn marriage. Laura Davenport is a dazzling blonde widow who has focused her life on being a mother to her 17-year-old stepson, Justin. When Bell overhears Justin lying to Laura about his outrageous behavior, he decides to return the boy’s flask to Laura. During their discussion, Justin’s guardian, Montclief, bursts in, verbally abusing Laura. Bell defuses the situation with the news that Laura has accepted his proposal of marriage. As Bell offers to tutor Justin in fencing, and they develop a relationship built on respect, Laura discovers Bell is an honorable man. He sees her as loving and kind, and it is easy for romance to blossom. But there are problems as Montclief tries to destroy the fragile bonds they have built. (FOREVER, Jun., 448 pp., $7.99)
