In this sequel to When the Sandpiper Calls, readers may feel they are missing some background information if they have not read the first book. Sometimes the story seems more lackluster than cozy, though Darty creates three-dimensional characters and a believable plot.

Writer Christy Castleman's
life gets complicated when her aunt becomes a murder suspect. While trying to prove her aunt's innocence, Christy's former boyfriend appears on the scene. Is he there to help her solve the mystery, or is it possible he's the one for Christy? (Waterbrook, Feb., 352 pp., $13.99)
