Nicholas Sparks fans will rejoice to hear that there's a new male author on the scene who writes beautifully about love and emotionally charged relationships. Tears of sadness and joy go hand in hand in this immensely satisfying story. It's hard to believe that this is Baron's first work of fiction. Outstanding!

Gerry Rubato's once carefree and happy life has taken an unexpectedly drastic turn. His 17-year-old daughter, Tanya, has run away with her boyfriend, and his wife has suddenly passed away. Left alone to raise their 4-month-old son, Gerry returns to work and begins to rebuild his life. When he makes a female friend, the last thing on his mind is romance. Is he strong enough to recognize a second chance at love? (STORY PLANT, Oct., 368 pp., $7.99)
