Lucien Ballard often thinks of a time when he was young, passionate and foolish. During that time, he married the gorgeous Thais Parker, which didn't last long. Imagine his surprise when he runs into her 15 years later and she's even more stunning.

The flame of passion between Lucien and Thais burns just as brightly as before. But Thais is newly divorced and wonders if it's too soon to get involved in another relationship, even though she knows things would be exceptional with Lucien. She also has a young daughter to consider. But Lucien is patient, sure this treat is worth the wait.

The prolific Griffin's latest story pulls at the emotional strings as this couple learns that love is definitely better the second time around. Thais' acceptance is gratifying, proving that a mother is still most certainly a woman who, no matter what, deserves happiness with the man who loves her. (May, 256 pp., $6.99)
