Scoop Wisdom gets his own story, and it’s worth the wait. Well plotted, with Neggers’ trademark witty dialogue and crackling sexual tension, this is a keeper.
Recuperating in Ireland from a bomb blast that nearly killed him, Boston detective Cyrus “Scoop” Wisdom meets archaeologist Sophie Malone. When he returns home, Scoop’s focus shifts to catching the bomber, then to Sophie, when she finds his prime suspect dead of an apparent suicide. But the scene was staged, and Scoop needs Sophie’s help in deciphering clues left by the killer. It’s an uneasy alliance, as the sparks fly between them and a killer, who’s already threatened Sophie’s life once, waits for another chance to strike. (MIRA, Jul., 336 pp., $24.95)
