The unspeakable evil of human trafficking is the backdrop to Gerard's newest thriller. Exposing the dark underbelly of this world ratchets up the danger quotient and places the gutsy heroine in grave jeopardy. On the romantic front, confirmed ladies' man Johnny Reed may have just met his match. Excellent stuff!

As soon as casino security agent Crystal Debrowski turns down a persistent sexual offer by Indonesian crime lord Yao Long, she is a marked woman. First she's framed and arrested for theft then, conveniently, her bail is paid by Yao. Crystal's best friend, Abbie Lang, gets both her husband, Sam, and his fellow Black Ops Inc. operative Johnny Reed involved. But Crystal is kidnapped and taken to Jakarta before Johnny can act.

Rescuing Crystal is job one, but Johnny and crew soon discover that one of Yao's primary businesses is human trafficking ... and that he may have been involved in the disappearance of a general's daughter. Yao believes he has the heart of a dragon, so he will stop at nothing to avenge his honor. (POCKET STAR, Jan., 335 pp., $6.99)
