RT Rating

Without missing a beat, Lethbridge (aka Michele Ann Young) manages to throw in every element of a classic historical, from kidnapping, highway robbery, a bargain with the devil, espionage, secret identities and ruthless villains. The story delivers a light, quick, enjoyable, though stereotypical, read.

Desperate to reclaim her family's fortune, Lady Eleanor Hadley takes to the high roads. The only mistake she makes is robbing Garrick, Marquess of Beauworth. Garrick sets out to unmask her with one searing kiss, but Ellie is far too clever to get caught.

Garrick has come to check on his estate, held under his uncle's guardianship. He does not like what he finds. Something is wrong and it concerns Ellie's family. She'll do anything, even become Garrick's mistress, so that her brother does not learn how she lost their home. However, an abduction, a mysterious letter, rumors of spying and growing passion throw Ellie's plans into disarray. Four years later they meet again, this time passions soar, danger rises and truths are finally revealed. (HARLEQUIN, May, 300 pp., $5.99)
