WILD AT HEART
Genre: Romantic Suspense, General Romantic Suspense
Former cop turned P.I., Valerie Parker is on yet another job tracking a potentially unfaithful wife. This time the target, Shannon Reichert, heads into a bar and picks up Alex DeMarco, a Tolosa, TX police detective. Alex reluctantly escorts the clinging Shannon back to her house. Outside, Val is keeping watch and stewing. Alex broke her heart and also got her fired from the police force. Inside, Alex is brushing off another of Shannon's passes, when he suddenly passes out.
When he comes to, he notices Shannon is not breathing and attempts to call Val for assistance. The police arrive and arrest Alex for the murder of Shannon Reichert. Alex insists he is innocent and the victim of a nefarious plot. Someone drugged him and then killed Shannon. Unfortunately, the only witness to Alex's claims is Val, who insists she saw no one else at the scene.
Out on bail, Alex is determined to discover the truth, and he will force it out of Val if necessary. When an attempt is made on her life, they begin to realize that the real killer wants to make sure Val is unable to put the pieces together. Alex and Val are forced to go AWOL as they try to clear Alex's name and save their own lives.
Proving that her first book was no fluke, author Jane Graves gives readers another action-packed ride. The complicated relationship between Alex and Val adds a terrific romantic tension to this smashing new novel. (Oct., 326 pp., $6.99)
