The arrival of old friend and ex-lover Dave Baggwell complicates attorney Lilly Belle Cleary's life no end. First, farmer Dave shows up with a truck full of organic wine that, unbeknownst to Lilly, is stolen. Then Dave and Benny, the 15-year-old son of Lilly's legal secretary Bonita, head off into the swamp and discover a dead body and a bag of money.

Dave is jailed for stealing the wine, and things get even more bizarre when a much-despised partner at Lilly's firm is murdered. Unfortunately for Lilly, all the evidence points to either Dave or Bonita. Undaunted, Lilly tries to protect her friends and discover the truth, which, of course, could get her killed.

Sassy and brassy heroine Lilly Belle is again up to her neck in trouble. The humorous, outlandish yet believable characters that populate Matturro's books make her legal thrillers anything but dry. (May, 304 pp., $23.95)
