Thayne’s latest in the Hope’s Crossing series is a story of love, forgiveness and healing. Once again, Thayne proves she has a knack for capturing those emotions that come from the heart. With great tenderness, she tells Spencer and Charlotte’s story, bringing readers back to the quaint town of Hope’s Crossing and its unique, charming residents. Crisp storytelling and many amusing moments make for a delightful read.

Scandal leads retired pro baseball player Spencer Gregory to take a job in his hometown of Hope’s Crossing. His return leaves much to be desired for the locals, especially for candy shop owner Charlotte Caine, the overweight girl he humiliated back in high school. Charlotte’s changed, having shed the weight, but her animosity toward him remains. Yet, her heart soon softens toward Spencer, who is in dire need of healing. Spencer begins to recover with Charlotte in his life, but can she trust him? (HQN, Jul., 384 pp., $7.99)
