WINNING IT ALL
WINNING IT ALL (4) by Catherine Mann & Emily McKay: Wild child Vanessa Hughes has just discovered she was adopted, that the only father she’s ever known may be dying and that she’s pregnant by the absolutely wrong man. A year ago, polo player Nicolas Valera had enough of spoiled Vanessa and broke things off, but a chance meeting in the sports club’s sauna room led to more. Now her unexpected pregnancy could put his career at risk and affect her father’s health. Mann pulls together opposites who strike sparks in “Pregnant With the Playboy’s Baby,” a splendid story of growth. When a compromising photo of hedge-fund trader Connor Stone and “the last good girl in America” Brittany Hannon, a senator’s daughter, heats up the tabloids, Connor tries to do the right thing by claiming to be Brittany’s secret fiancé. The fake engagement leads to a real relationship, and the two wonder where the lies end and the truth begins. Connor’s charm bounces off Brittany’s righteousness with a sharp clang that may grate on readers’ nerves, overall, though McKay’s “His Accidental Fiancée”is well written.
