The first in Gray's new Amish series, Seasons of Sugarcreek, is predictable
in parts, but readers will appreciate the character development, especially in relation to Lilly and how she learns to voice her desires for her life.
Gretta Hershberger and Joshua Graber have been courting, and it's widely assumed that they will marry ... which is precisely Joshua's problem. He is apprehensive that his future seems predetermined.
Joshua is taken by his new neighbor, 18-year-old Englisher Lilly Allen, and she with him, though she's sure he'll lose interest once he learns her secret. As distance grows between Gretta and Joshua, Roland Schrock uses the opportunity to express his interest in Gretta. Will Gretta's fears of having a marriage like her parents' cause her to focus on Roland, even though her heart still belongs to Joshua? (AVON INSPIRE, Feb., 304 pp., $12.99)
