This is the third novel in Mallory’s Jolie Wilkins series and readers would do best to start at the beginning. Mallory’s writing is fun, and her protagonist is smart, giving this book an edge. The author does a great job of keeping the pace until the final pages, where twists are turned and questions answered. Keep your eye out for more in this entertaining series.

Jolie Wilkins is just a girl telling fortunes and reading palms when a handsome warlock walks into her life. Now she’s about to be crowned queen of the underworld. Ruling over various groups of supernaturals isn’t exactly something she ever studied for in college, and her rare talent for raising the dead isn’t going to help her this time. Even her personal life is in shambles. She has been keeping a devastating secret from the love of her life while a handsome vampire and her sworn guardian attempt to seduce her. Instead of running away, Jolie decides to dig in her heels and take charge of her own destiny. (BANTAM, Feb., 336 pp., $7.99)
