Fan fave Eddie gets his moment to shine (or burn, as it were) in this newest chapter of Liu’s exceptional Dirk & Steele series. The danger here is palpable and horrific, and this villain will make your skin crawl. Liu’s continued growth as an author is showcased in each book, making her one of the genre’s top talents. Amazing as always!

Pyrokinetic Eddie is working on regaining control of his fire after nearly dying. Still a bit unstable, Eddie is not thrilled when he is asked by Roland to go to New York City to find Lyssa, a dragon shifter who has been on the run following the murder of her parents by the Cruor Venator. Just the mention of the name Cruor Venator strikes terror in most beings, but after having met Lyssa, Eddie will not be driven away. Lyssa blames herself for her parents’ deaths; having more lives at risk because of what stalks her is not acceptable. Lyssa and Eddie share the ability of fire, and both have control issues, making for an explosive match! (AVON, Dec., 384 pp., $7.99)
