When TV reporter Sophie Markham spies a little girl who looks remarkably like her murdered sister, she wonders if
it could be her infant niece, who disappeared at the time of the murder. The child turns out to be the adopted daughter of Sophie's old flame's sister. Gary Barksdale loved Sophie in college, but he's not going to let her tear his family apart. Kathleen Long's Without a Doubt (3) is deftly plotted, with a tricky subplot and a charming hero. Sophie, however, is hard-edged and brittle.
