Rising star Johnson proves she's a talent to be reckoned with as book two in the Sons of Destiny series unfolds. This terrific combination of danger and magic is liberally spiced with humor and sexy romance. Reading it is time well spent. A complicated prophecy foretells coming passion and jeopardy. Each book in the series reveals more details as well as character development among the protagonists. Kudos to Johnson!

As the second verse of the prophecy regarding the eight mage brothers exiled to Nightfall Island begins, it is shapechanger Wolfer's turn in the romantic spotlight. As children, Wolfer and neighbor child Alys were inseparable. Since the brothers' exile to Nightfall, darkness has fallen over Alys as well, for her evil mage uncle Lord Broger has not only been the source of the long-range attacks against the brothers, he's also inflicted deep wounds against Alys too.

In a desperate bid, Alys escapes to Nightfall Island in hope of finding sanctuary and reconnecting with Wolfer. Alys' appearance signals to the brothers that destiny is in full swing as they try to prepare for the coming confrontation. (BERKLEY SENSATION, Apr., 320 pp., $14.00)
